By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Sept 6: The Karak police allegedly harrased a councillor's family in Mithakhel area during a raid for the arrest of his cousin, Tariq Salim, who was wanted in connection with the killing of a goat, family members said.

Tariq Salim had run over a goat while driving a pick-up near the Tablighi Markaz in Karak on Saturday. The driver did not stop the vehicle and sped away after the incident, the family members alleged.

On Sunday afternoon, a party from the Karak Police Station, headed by Additional SHO Mehmood Khan, raided the house of councillor Zafarullah of Mithakhel union council, without warrant and harrased the family members.

The councillor telephoned Dawn offices and told this reporter that the police party put pressure on him to produce the 'culprit', who did not live there. He said that after leaving the area, the police made phone call to their house to come to the police station to settle the matter.

An official in the Karak Police Station, told Dawn that the raid was conducted to arrest Tariq Salim who was wanted in a case of killing a goat with a pick-up truck. The official said that Zaffarullah also was nominated in the FIR and they wanted to arrest them.

SP Karak Mohammad Iqbal when contacted for his comment was said to have gone out on patrol duty. However, the police officials on duty refused to give details of the FIR.
