LARKANA: Position holders to get Rs25,000 each

LARKANA, Aug 28: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hameeda Khuhro has said students who performed well in Board examinations will receive Rs25,000 each a year to continue their studies.

She said this while distributing scholarship cheques among 194 students here on Saturday.

The minister said the government was extending financial help to poor and intelligent students.

She said the government was providing free textbooks to students from class I to V, adding that girls having above 80 per cent attendance would get financial aid.

Ms Khuhro also announced Rs25,000 for the District Boys Scouts Association, Larkana.

About performance of school management committees, she said she had received numerous complains about the committees and added that verification of the complaints was in process after which a decision would be taken in the matter.

The director, Bureau of Curriculum and Extension Wing, Jamshoro, Manzoor Hussain Bhutto, said in all, 828 scholarships had been approved by the Sindh government, out of which 100 were for the Karachi Board, 389 for Hyderabad, 199 for Sukkur and 104 for Larkana.

Prof Mohammad Ali Soomro said talented students who were getting education in private institutions would also be given scholarships under other programmes.
