KARACHI, Aug 26: The Senate chairman, Mohammadian Soomro said on Thursday that the government was serious in solving investors problems.
Speaking at a meeting of American Business Council (ABC) at a local hotel the Senate chairman said that the government wanted to resolve all their problems in consultation with the representatives of business community.
He observed that investors including ABC members have the solution to the problems of unemployment and revenue. "We keep looking towards you for the solution of country's two biggest problems of unemployment and revenue. You generate jobs and pay taxes to the national exchequer which are utilized to carry out development projects in the country," Soomro said.
He said the ABC is doing good work and government's expectations are high from this Council. "Our expectations are high because you are better organised and result oriented," he said.
Replying to a question of shortage of water, he said that proper lining of water courses and canals was one of the solutions of saving water. Another solution is to build more storage facilities to preserve water for irrigation.
To another question regarding Balochistan problems, he said that Prime Minister Ch Shujaat had constituted a Senate Committee for solution of this issue. Talking of oil prices, he said that government would pass on the impact to the consumers if its absorption capacity is depleted.
Soomro said that government was taking various measures to further improve law and order situation in the province specially against car and mobile phone snatching incidents.
Earlier, president ABC Humayun Bashir in his address of welcome said that the council grouping 54 members were contributing Rs35 billion or 8 per cent of the total tax revenue to the national exchequer.
ABC was providing jobs directly to 20,000 people and 0.5 million job indirectly. He said one purpose of the Council is to promote investment in Pakistan. -APP
