BAKU, July 9: President Pervez Musharraf left an admirable impression on his Azeri host with his fluency over the Turkish language.

Addressing the Parliament of Azerbaijan, called Milli Majlis, on Friday morning, the President announced in Turkish Pakistan's unstinted support for Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno Karabakh for which he received a prolonged applause from the deputies.

The President, on his arrival in the Parliament and at the conclusion of his 23-minute speech, was given a standing ovation by the gathering. He was accompanied by Majlis Chairman Murtuz Aleskerov, who, in his welcome remarks, praised the growing friendship between the two countries, saying that Pakistan was the first country to recognize Azerbaijan.

Menwhile, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mohammadyarov and Defence Minister Safar Adiyev called on President General Pervez Musharraf here on Friday.

The Azeri ministers exchanged views with the president on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming the common desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields. -APP
