12 injured in Sui rocket attacks

QUETTA, June 10: At least 12 people, including three women and two children, were injured when rockets were fired in the residential areas of Sui township of Dera Bugti district on Thursday.

All the injured were admitted to Civil Hospital Sui for treatment. The condition of two injured was stated to be serious, sources said. "Yes, around a dozen people were injured in the rocket attack," a security official confirmed to Dawn when reached by telephone.

He said that some houses were damaged as the rockets, fired by unknown people, hit them. According to reports reaching here, a dozen rockets were launched by unspecified attackers at different checkpoints of the Frontier Corps guarding the Sui gasfield and other installations.

Four rockets exploded in the gasfield area but gas wells remained safe. At least six rockets landed in the residential areas of Bogra Colony, Madvani Colony, Bugti Colony, Mohammad Colony, and Old Sui areas, injuring 12 people.

The rockets hit the houses of one, Wali Jan Hamzani, Sher Ahmed Hamzani and two other houses in these colonies, the sources said. Wali Jan Hamzani's wife and six other members of his family were injured in the attack as one rocket exploded in his house. The house caught fire after the explosion.

The personnel of the Frontier Corps also returned fire following which the attackers escaped from the scene, official sources said. Other sources, however, said that the houses were damaged during the exchange of fire.

The injured were: Wali Jan, his wife, Abdul Manan, Abdul Rehman Rangwani, Chakar Khan, Lalu, Sher Ahmed Hamzani, his wife, Habibullah Laghani, Shama Laghani, Hassu Chakrani and Wadera Ali Bakhsh.
