Briton shot dead in Multan

By Nadeem Saeed

MULTAN, June 3: A British citizen was gunned down here on Thursday night reportedly by six assailants near the city's busiest Ghanta Ghar Chowk.

According to initial details, Allen Cox was giving lessons in English language to a group of local students at his residence- cum-academy adjacent to the local Dreamland Cinema when someone called him outside.

However, when he appeared on the door the visitors opened fire on him with automatic weapons. He died on the spot. The area where the incident took place is in the heart of the city and several food shops around it remain open till late in the night.

The Kotwali police station is only a couple of furlongs away from the scene of crime. A waiter at one of the nearby barbecue restaurants, Ghulam Hussain, said that first he heard sounds of several gunshots and then he saw some six armed people fleeing from the spot on three motorcycles.

District police officer Hamid Mukhtar Gondal along with other senior officials rushed to the area where Mr Cox's body was lying in a pool of blood at the doorstep of his academy. The police later on removed his body to the Nishtar hospital.
