PM optimistic about peace process
ISLAMABAD, May 15: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has expressed the hope that the peace process will not be affected by the change of government in India as it is in the interests of both the countries.
He was talking to reporters after attending a briefing at the Nadra head office here on Saturday.
The prime minister hoped the new Indian government would continue the ongoing dialogue with Pakistan keeping in view the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries.
He said Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, had already stated that the peace process would continue. But Mr Jamali said that peace in the region was only possible by resolving all issues, including the issue of the Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Jamali said that he the outgoing Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, had told him (Mr Jamali) during the Saarc Summit that he had the support of the opposition parties regarding the ongoing peace process.
Referring to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's announcement that Maulana Fazlur Rahman was being appointed opposition leader, the PM said Chaudhry Shujaat, being the party president, was in a position to make such a remark.
