KARACHI: Ex-policeman kills youth

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 9: An alleged former activist of a political party and ex-policeman shot dead a young man and wounded the victim's four brothers over a petty issue in Korangi on Sunday.

Police said that Laiq Ahmed, 27, died on the spot while three of his brothers were wounded, when accused Syed Tahir Ali, alias Nadeem, alias SP, opened fire at them outside their house in Korangi.

Police said that the brothers of the victim had beaten Tahir's brother a few days ago over some petty dispute. On Sunday, the two sides exchanged harsh words, after which Tahir opened fire at the four brothers and fled, the police added.

All the wounded were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Laiq was pronounced dead. His brothers, Hanif, Nafees, Rais and Irfan were provided treatment. The police said that later Tahir courted arrest at the Korangi police station.

ACCIDENT: A seven-year-old boy died in a road accident in Surjani Town on Sunday. Police said that Mohammad Nadeem was run over by a speeding water tanker in Khuda Ki Basti. The child was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The errant vehicle escaped from the spot.
