KARACHI, April 27: Five persons, including a four-year-old boy, died in road accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday. The four-year-old boy died, and his cousin was injured, in an accident in Orangi Town.
Police said Shahbaz was going along with his cousin Nawaz Khan, 19, on a motorcycle when a speeding minibus of route N knocked them down in Sector A-7.
Both the victims were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Shahbaz was pronounced dead on arrival. The errant driver fled from the scene following the accident. Nine-year-old Khan Bahadur was hit by a speeding truck near Jehanabad Mor early in the morning. Police said the victim was a resident of Jehanabad and was crossing the main road when he got hit by the truck.
The truck driver escaped, leaving the vehicle behind. Police said the truck was engaged in construction work on the Lyari Expressway. In Soldier Bazar a ninth-class student, Mohammad Asad, died after being crushed by the vehicle from which he was stepping down.
Police said Asad was disembarking from his school van (CA-6586) when the accident occurred. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have arrested Mohammad Sharif, the driver of the vehicle.
In Mauripur, sixty-year-old Mohammad Islam died after being hit by a speeding truck on the Mauripur Road. The truck fled from the spot while the injured was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he was pronounced dead.
Thirty-year-old Rafi Khan died in an accident on Sunset Boulevard. Police said the victim, riding his Vespa (KAN-1627), was hit by a speeding truck (PE-0265) near the Defence Central library. The victim died instantaneously. The police arrested the driver Ammar Khan and impounded the vehicle.
KILLED: A security guard was killed by unknown persons in Ibrahim Hydri early on Tuesday. Police said Ghulam Rasool, 30, was gunned down in his sleep in Ali Barohi Goth. Police suspect personal vendetta as a possible motive behind the killing.
Unknown persons killed an unidentified young man in Korangi Industrial Area on Tuesday. The police said the victim's body was recovered from Gabol Road. It was shifted to the JPMC for a postmortem examination. Hospital sources said the victim had suffered a bullet wound in his head.
SUICIDE: A young doctor committed suicide in Railway Colony on Tuesday night. According to the police, Dr Bakhsh Ali Bilar, 36, ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his clinic. The SHO Mithadar police station said Dr Bilar used to reside on the first floor of his clinic, where police found a broken television set.
The victim was a graduate of Chandka Medical College and hailed from Khairpur. He was married and his family was living in his hometown, the police added. Police could not ascertain the cause of the suicide immediately. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for an autopsy examination, police added.
