LONDON, April 25: Arsenal were crowned English Premier League champions for the 13th time on Sunday as a 2-2 draw at north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur gave them an unassailable 10-point lead in the standings.
After second-placed Chelsea lost 2-1 at Newcastle United earlier in the day, Arsenal needed only a draw to secure the premier league honours for the second time in three years. The draw takes them to 82 points from 34 of 38 games. Chelsea have 72 and last season's champions Manchester United 71, both from 35 games.
French midfielders Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires put Arsene Wenger's side 2-0 ahead at halftime but Jamie Redknapp pulled one back after 62 minutes and Robbie Keane's injury-time penalty denied Arsenal victory in the match but not the title.
They will now attempt to avoid losing any of their remaining four games to become only the second top-flight side to go through the season unbeaten after Preston North End in 1888-89 when they played only 22 games.
Arsenal lost only one match when they won the league in 1991.
