Musharraf urged to quit army post by Dec 31

By Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, April 25: The acting president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, has said that Article 63 of the Constitution will stand restored on Dec 31 under which no government servant can hold any elected office.

He was speaking at the concluding session of a three-day training camp of office-bearers of the Jamaat-i-Islami at the Madressah Riazul Uloom, Detha, some 15 kilometres from here on Sunday. Mr Qazi said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf would have to take off his army uniform on Dec 31. He described any breach of agreement between the government and the MMA as violation of the Constitution.

He said that the president was bound to leave one of the two offices under the 17th constitutional amendment. He reiterated that the MMA did not agree on the formation of National Security Council and vowed to do away with it whenever the alliance secured a majority in parliament.

Referring to the president's statement that corrupt people had been inducted in the government, he blamed the army for corruption at its top level and added that it was also responsible for the present loot and plunder.

He asked as to how come generals whose forefathers were poor had managed to amass a lot of wealth. He said that individuals, wanted by the NAB had been inducted into the cabinet. The MMA leader said that land near the Guddu barrage was distributed among army generals whereas deserving landless peasants were neglected.

He said that Jews from 80 countries had been brought to occupy houses of the Palestinians and added that Indo-American-Zionist lobby had unleashed a reign of terror against Muslims. He said that the alliance of five major Wifaq-ul-Madaris had decided to resist government interference in the seminaries and not to allow it to change syllabus of the madressahs as the alliance was itself ready to amend syllabus according to the present day needs.

He remarked that under patronage of the army, police and administration, organized hooliganism was taking place in the country. The Jamaat chief welcomed winding up of the Wana operation and said credit went to MMA's MNAs for playing a pivotal role in bringing about a truce between the two sides.

He said that it was a conspiracy hatched by the enemy to declare the people of Fata as enemies of Pakistan and added that there was no need for the Pakistan army to go to Iraq to protect the US soldiers.

He said that India was a strategic ally of the USA, therefore, how could Pakistan become an ally of the US and against which state. Mr Qazi alleged that the USA had directed President Musharraf to bring amendments to the syllabus of the seminaries.

He asserted that no policy making institution knew how the syllabus had been changed over night. He alleged that the USA had penetrated deep into country's administration. He said that the policies of the USA were Muslim- countries specific and added that while India and Israel had the right to acquire nuclear technology such right was denied to Pakistan.

Senator Professor Ghafoor Ahmed, Osama bin Razi, Abdul Hafeez Bijarani, Syed Shahid Hashmi, Aziz Ghauri and others also spoke on the occasion.

JSM-J: The Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Junejo) central committee in a meeting held in Radhan hasexpressed concern over the settlement of outsiders in the Sindh province.
