By Our Sports Reporter
KARACHI, April 17: The visiting Sri Lankan Defence University rugby team ended their three city tour of Pakistan on a winning note, overwhelming the Karachi Rugby Football Club 36-12 on Saturday
at the PNS Karsaz Naval Physical Training Sport Centre Football ground.
After losing their opening match 15-12 to the Islamabad Rugby Club, the visitors drew with Lahore 10-10 and desperately needed a victory to end their successful tour.
After 10 minutes of hectic rugby, the Lankans opened their account through a try from Dameth Milan, who completed the conversion to open the account for the visitors.
Ten minutes later, Dameth chalked up another seven points to put his team 14-0 ahead. The score moved along to 17-0 when G.G. Pushpakymaka converted a penalty.
Stung into action the Karachi Rugby team was successful with Karamat's try and with Anwar-ul-Haq kicking the ball over the bar, the home team earned seven points.
But with the Lankans on the attack again with a try from Wijeekoon the score was 22-7 in favour of the Lankans.
Two more tries from Thoradendia and Herath with a conversion from Dameth, had the Lankans on the winning trail 36-12. In between Umer Usman, easily the best player of the home side, bulldozed his way through the solid Lankan defence to score five points. The visitors' S.W. Siriwardhanawas later declared the Man-of-the-Match.
