SHEIKHUPURA, April 14: Ten armed robbers looted cotton yarn worth Rs2.8 million from a truck near Bhekhi on Wednesday. The robbers intercepted the truck coming from Faisalabad after creating obstacles on the road. The armed robbers overpowered the driver and conductor, tied them up with a rope and threw them into a roadside ditch.

Later, they shifted the consignment to another truck and escaped from the scene. They also injured the driver and conductor for holding them out.

DUAL CARRIAGEWAY: The work on Lahore to Faisalabad dual carriageway started on Wednesday. The Rs4 billion project will be carried out by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO).

Col Younas of the FWO said the project would be completed in phases. In the first phase, Lahore to Sheikhupura road would be completed within one year. He said the project would be formally inaugurated by the Punjab chief minister soon.

Similarly, the work from Sheikhupura to Gatwala (Faisalabad) would be completed in two years, he added. A bridge and a hotel will be constructed near Khanpur canal he said.

MURDER: Shabbir was murdered by his rival Javed Pathan and his accomplice over a petty dispute in Shah Colony on Wednesday. B-division police are investigating.

SHOT DEAD: A youth was shot dead by his friend over a dispute of only Rs100 in Aliabad locality here on Wednesday. Ghafoor had given Rs100 to Faryad some time back, but he refused to repay him. In a fit of rage, Ghafoor shot dead his friend. The Factory Area police are investigating.
