MITHI, April 12: Weenjhar Social Welfare Organization president Khalid Mehmood has appealed to all civil society organizations and Tharparkar district administration to take appropriate measures to get vacated a well in Kaloi town from the illegal occupation of some local influential.

In a complaint sent to various functionaries, he alleged that his organization had constructed a well in Kaloi town at a plot donated by the people for providing facility of potable water to them.

He said some local influential have forcibly started construction of a room near the well and threatened locals not to fetch water from it. He appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.

CONFERENCE: Speakers at a conference on social and economic rights of workers on Sunday called upon the non- governmental organizations to play their role in creating awareness about the rights of workers.

The one-day conference was organized by the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research. Speaking on the occasion, Tharparkar District Naib Nazim Ramsingh Sodho said the government had introduced the system of citizens community boards to devise appropriate development planning with the active participation of people.

He said the majority of councillors as well as labourers lacked knowledge about the labour laws hence training be given to them. TRDP Executive Director Dr Sono Khangharani said that the democratic system could not flourish without the participation of people.
