Attempt to cross border foiled

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, April 10: The Frontier Corps foiled an attempt of six armed suspects to cross into Pakistani area from Afghanistan and arrested an injured suspect following a heavy exchange of fire on the border near Chaman, in the early hours of Saturday.

"Around six armed suspects attempted to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan," a senior official of FC said in Chaman while confirming the firing incident.

Sources said a heavy exchange of fire took place near the Basit check point of the Frontier Corps along the Afghan border.

The armed men had started firing on the check point when FC personnel challenged them. They returned the fire and this exchange continued for 30 minutes, after which the armed suspects escaped into Afghanistan leaving an accomplice, Abdul Ghaffar, injured at the border.

Meanwhile, the vehicle brining the injured suspect to a hospital met an accident near the border, resulting in killing of a soldier, Mohammad Qasid Khan, and injuring three others.

The injured were rushed to a hospital and later one of them was shifted to the CMH Quetta as his condition was serious.

The two other injured were identified as Mohammad Rahim and Abdullah while the name of the third injured could not be ascertained.
