KARACHI: Rules for LLM thesis notified


KARACHI, April 9: The examinations department of University of Karachi on Friday directed all candidates appearing in forthcoming LLM (final) annual examinations 2004 to get their thesis supervised only by the directors approved by KU.

According to a KU notification, thesis supervised by persons other than the approved directors will not be accepted while no director is allowed to undertake supervision of more than five theses at a time.

The notification maintains that the topic of the thesis and the name of the research supervisor (director) must be intimated on the form provided by the KU to the dean, faculty of law, before beginning of preparation of thesis or at least one month before the date of submission of thesis. Thesis submitted without intimation will not be accepted.

The topic of the thesis must be related with any of the 12 subjects in LLM (previous) and (final) and if candidates intend to present their thesis on any topic offered earlier, care must be taken to highlight the context by a new point of research. In case of any ambiguity, the dean faculty of law can be consulted.

Thesis must be according to the methodology of research and contain indication of proper references and consist of minimum 100 typed pages, as otherwise candidates' thesis will not be accepted.

Candidates have been further directed to submit five copies of their thesis to the controller of examinations KU positively by Aug 31. Thesis not submitted within the given time will not be accepted.

All failure/leftover candidates of viva-voce examination shall also be required to provide requisite copies of their thesis to KU controller of exams. Thesis submitted by the candidates must contain certificate of the director as per form and must be dated and signed by both the director and the candidate. Thesis not containing the certificate will not be accepted.

Candidates have also been directed to attach intimation letter, certificate of director, pay order of Rs2000 and photocopy of their admit card along with their thesis.

The date of viva-voce examination will be notified separately and viva-voce exam will specifically cover the topic and subjects of thesis, as such students are advised to refresh their memory and prepare the related subject and thesis thoroughly before appearing in the exams.

Candidates will be deemed fail unless they pass all three components of LLM examination, including theory, thesis and viva-voce. Failures in any of the three components will have to appear and pass that part only along with students of next badge, the notification adds. -PPI
