KARACHI, April 6: Leader of the opposition in provincial assembly, Nisar Khuhro, on Tuesday criticized the government for allegedly violating the law that made Sindhi language as a compulsory subject.
Addressing a news conference in his assembly chamber, Mr Khuhro said, "Sindh assembly had passed a law in 1973 introducing Salees Urdu and Sindhi language subjects in schools. Recently this assembly had also passed a bill making it mandatory for private schools to introduce Sindhi language subject.
"But the Board of Secondary Education Karachi has restricted the students from appearing in these subjects," he claimed. He said that the BSEK had issued notices to the students who were to appear in exams from April 28 that they could not appear in these papers. They were instead directed to appear only for the normal Urdu and advance English subjects, he said.
Nisar Khuhro said that his party would raise this issue in the assembly for withdrawal of this decision, which he said was a conspiracy to eliminate Sindhi language, especially from Karachi and other urban areas.
