Two soldiers killed as truck falls into ravine

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, April 4: Two army soldiers were killed and six others wounded when their vehicle plunged into a ravine in Chaga Malai, about seven kilometres to the west of Jandola near South Waziristan.

Officials said the accident occurred at around 12 noon when the truck accompanying an army convoy went out of the driver's control while negotiating a turn and fell into the ravine.

Army helicopters airlifted the dead and wounded. Armed volunteers from Mehsud tribe that escorted the convoy to ensure its safe passage through their territory helped in the evacuation of the victims.

Meanwhile, Mehsud tribesmen have warned that they will banish those harbouring and facilitating foreign militants for 25 years, demolish their houses and impose heavy fines on them.
