KARACHI: People seek protection against criminals

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 28: Residents of Ali Mohammad Mohalla in Lyari Town have urged the authorities to ensure protection to the life and property of the local residents.

They called for the setting up of a permanent police post in the locality to keep a check the movement of anti-social elements who, they said, had been posing a serious threat to peace.

They pointed out that a sense of insecurity prevailed in the locality following an incident of indiscriminate firing near a mosque late Friday. No one was hurt as people came out of their houses and the culprits had to flee.

A social worker, Akhtar Baloch, complained that similar incidents took place quite frequently. He recalled that two youths had been killed in an armed clash last month in the same locality whereas a notable of the area had been killed apparently by dacoits.

Mr Baloch said that the local residents had to resist an armed robbery last year. The battle, he added, had resulted in the death of seven armed men and two innocent persons.
