11 Indian fishermen arrested

KARACHI, March 20: Pakistan Maritime Security Agency on Saturday arrested 11 Indian fishermen and seized two boats for fishing in Pakistani waters illegally, an official of the Agency said.

"They were arrested 60 nautical miles east of Karachi," the official said, adding that they had been sent to jail.

With this arrest, the number of Indian fishermen in Pakistani jails has reached 239. Twenty-nine Pakistani fishermen are in Indian jails and their five boats have been impounded for violating Indian territorial waters during fishing.

The fishing communities of the two countries have been demanding a permanent solution to the problem seeking an early release of the arrested fishermen. - dpa
