MIRPUR, Feb 26: Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Human Rights Commission Humayoon Zaman Mirza has condemned the continuing fencing of the Line of Control by India besides criticizing the recent increase in human rights abuse in the occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces.

He said this while speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday. Terming the erection of the barbed-wire fence a violation of international norms, Mr Mirza urged the world community to take immediate notice in this regard.

Highlighting the need for a positive Indian response to make the dialogue with Pakistan result-oriented, he called upon India to immediately stop the fencing of the LoC besides ending repression in the occupied state, saying it was necessary to resolve all outstanding differences, especially the core issue of Kashmir.

Mr Mirza said that only trilateral talks, including Pakistan, India and Kashmiris could prove to be fruitful in this regard. He said: "Kashmiri people are the main party...and they must be given representation in any future talks".

He said Kashmiri people should be given an opportunity to determine their future in accordance with their wishes and UN resolutions. He said that it was vital for India to adopt a realistic policy towards Pakistan and Kashmir through the comprehensive dialogue.

Humayoon Zaman urged the print and electronic media to inform the world about atrocities and state terrorism unleashed by Indian troops against the innocent people in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He praised the policies adopted by President Pervez Musharraf, saying they were in the larger national interest. He called for immediate withdrawal of Indian troops from the occupied Kashmir besides abolishing draconian laws like POTA, releasing Kashmiri leaders and provision of travel documents to detained leaders of the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference. -APP
