Vajpayee calls for economic cooperation with Pakistan
DEHRA DUN, Jan 28: India's Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Wednesday called for bilateral economic cooperation with Pakistan, and offered to sell foodgrains to Islamabad, at a BJP public meeting here.
Mr Vajpayee said he was optimistic that all issues with Pakistan would be resolved through dialogue. While addressing the BJP meeting, he referred to the recent India-Pakistan initiatives, and asked the public "who would have thought that there will be so much peace along the borders."
Mr Vajpayee said the two countries have been fighting for 50 years during which three wars have been waged. He said it was conveyed to Pakistan that instead of looking at distant countries for its import requirements at steep costs, India was willing to make it available to that country. "Similarly, what we need, we will get from Pakistan", he said observing "one can change friends, not neighbours".-PPI
