KARACHI, Jan 1: The former chief justice of Sindh, Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad, has said that the role played by the judiciary in the history of Pakistan has been bad and black.
Speaking at a seminar organized by Pasban to look into the problems faced by government officials - with focus on the late Professor Ghazi Khan Jakharani's death - Justice Ahmad said police had become "dangerously corrupt" and were openly robbing people. He added that the Sindh governor and chief secretary should have taken notice of the incident.
"A post-mortem of the bodies should have been carried out before sending them to Jacobabad. This would have brought to light many facts. In any civilized nation, heads would have rolled following the tragic incident.
But the fact that the death came to light after 17 days shows how callous society has become." The vice-president of Pasban, Usman Moazzam, Shamim Naz, and others also spoke at the seminar.
