SIALKOT, Dec 1: The private sector will establish fish farms on another 2,500 acres in the Punjab during the current fiscal year, it is learnt.

Official sources said on Monday that progressive farmers had so far established fish farms over an area of 30,000 acres across the province.

They said that a mass motivation campaign was being launched to create awareness among the people and to make the best use of the advisory services provided by the fisheries department to obtain maximum fish production.

Advisory cells would soon be established at tehsil level throughout the Punjab where the fish farmers would get technical guidance regarding farm management, pond designing and construction, free feasibility report with complete financial analysis, feed storage, diseases prevention as well as complimentary analysis of soil and water.

Sources said that fish seed of indigenous species like Rohu, Thaila and Mon would also be provided to fish farmers at very nominal rates from various hatcheries.

GRANT: The Punjab government has released a Rs150 million grant for the provision of furniture, potable water and electricity facilities, besides the construction of additional classrooms, boundary walls and toilets in 660 boys and girls primary, elementary and high schools in rural areas of the Sialkot district.
