ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: The accounts of six housing societies in the capital were recently frozen because they failed to obtain no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the departments concerned, Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat informed the National Assembly on Monday.

In a written reply, he said the accounts of these housing societies had been frozen by the Circle Registrar Cooperative Societies (CRCS), Islamabad, as these societies failed to get NOCs from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the CRCS.

The societies whose accounts were frozen included: the CBR Employees Cooperative Housing Society, PARC Employees Cooperative Society, University Grants Commission Cooperative Housing Society, Work No Word Cooperative Housing Society, National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society and the Islamabad Cooperative Housing Society.

To another question, the minister said Gulshan-i-Sehat Housing Scheme, which was floated by the Ministry of Health Employees Cooperative Housing Society in Sector E-18, was not part of the master plan of Islamabad.

The proposed housing scheme, he added, fell in the “specified area” of Islamabad which was outside the capital territory limits. Hence there was no proposal to include it in the master plan.

He said no loss of life in Sector H-8 and I-8 was reported due to heavy rains of July 2001. However, some houses in the low- lying areas were inundated causing damage to the properties in these sectors but not due to non-paving of banks of nullahs passing through the sectors.

The minister said huge amount was required to construct the banks of these nullahs and the CDA currently lacked funds to initiate the project.

He said during the last three years the Regional Transport Authority, Islamabad, had issued route permits to 109 vehicles on different routes. However, the minister did not agree with the claim that wagons plying on these routes had enhanced the capacity of passengers to 22 seats.

About the discontinuation of water supply to the recently auctioned commercial plots in Sector E-8, he said the CDA had no control on water supply to these plots because the water supply to the sector was arranged by Pakistan Navy from their own sources.
