LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Nov 1: Two people were killed and 20 seriously injured when a speedy pick-up rammed into a truck near the Pakistan-Afghan border of Torkhum on Saturday.

Witnesses said that the ill-fated pick-up, carrying some 22 people, was in on its way to Landi Kotal just half an hour before Iftar when it met with the accident. Two persons Sher Rahman Afridi and Lal Math died on the spot.

The rest 20 passengers sustained serious injuries and after initial check-up, they were taken to Peshawar hospitals.

The accident occurred due to over-speeding when the passenger vehicle went out of its driver’s control and rammed into a stationary truck. The pick up was also badly damaged. Khasadar force posted at Torkhum and staff of the Edhi volunteers took the injured to hospital.

ROAD BLOCKED: Protesting Nikkikhel tribesmen   blocked  the Peshawar-Landi Kotal highway on Saturday for several hours, demanding an end to armed clash between Nikkikhel and Karamna-wal tribesmen.

The two tribesmen are engaged in a heavy gunbattle for the last one-and-half week on a property dispute. Due to the use of heavy arms by both sides a number of private houses and a primary school have been damaged by mortar shells.
