ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Top seed Shweta Kakhandki of India went marching into the girls singles final of the ITF International Junior tennis tournament at the Islamabad Club on Thursday with a three-set defeat of Thailand’s Wannasuk Nungnudda.
Shweta scored a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over her opponent who had won the first leg of the tournament last week.
The win earned her a clash in the decider with another Thai player Punjaporn Ditthim who outplayed India’s Daksha Mulay 6-3, 6-3 without any difficulty.
In the boys doubles quarterfinals, the Pakistani duo of Shahzad Khan and Wasif Cheema advanced by beating Indians Lalit Mann and Sundeep Kumar 7-6 (2), 6-1.
Also moving into the semifinals was the Indian team of Rupesh Roy and Sumit Gupta who knocked out Mutib Pasha and Adnan Khan 6- 0, 6-1.
In another quarterfinal, Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand and India’s Kaushik Das eliminated home pair of Ijaz Usman and Danish Ahmed 6-4, 7-6 (3).
Vivek Shokeen of India and Sri Lankan Nishendiran Sivendiran earned a walkover against Nauman Yahya and Naumanul Haq.
