Army retain title

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Army retained their national title on Thursday as they captured 15 out of the total 19 medals in the 45th national swimming championship at the Pakistan Sports Complex Pool.

Besides their rich haul of gold, the Army swimmers also bagged 10 silver and five bronze medals accumulating an impressive 187 points.

Wapda, with one gold, three silver and a bronze were second with 78 points followed by Navy who had 71 points having won one gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

The Army swimmers claimed four out of the five gold medals that were at stake on the last day with Navy taking a gold through Muhammad Zahid in the 100m backstroke.

Muhammad Mumtaz, Zulfiqar Ali and Mahboob Khan figured prominently in Army’s campaign in keeping their crown. The three- day championship however saw no records being set.

4x100m medley (final): Faiz Muhammad, Muhammad Munir, Zulfiqar Ali, Muhammad Khan (Army) 4:27:13, M. Zahid, M. Akbar, Ali Gul, Hameedur Rehman (Navy) 4:32:87, Usman Javed, Abdul Aziz, Sikander Khan, Abdul Raheem Waqar (Punjab) 4:41:52.
