ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) to enforce the new tariff after approval of the authority.
Commenting on reports appearing in the press that the PTCL was introducing new tariffs from November 1, a spokesman for the PTA confirmed the receipt of proposals from the company for revision of tariffs and said the authority would adopt proper procedure which includes holding of a public forum.
The proposed tariff package submitted by the PTCL for approval of PTA did not contain any provision for the reduction in line rent or allowing free local calls to the consumers as reported in the press, he clarified.
The spokesman said the PTA had a prescribed policy for the regulation of tariff issues of various telecom service providers and PTCL would be allowed to introduce the new tariff provided it fulfilled the requisite conditions.
The Pakistan Telecommunica-tion Authority would discuss and deliberate on the latest tariff proposals of Pakistan Telecommun-ication Company in its meetings before taking a final decision to allow the company to enforce the revised tariffs, keeping in view the interest of consumers, the spokesman added.
