PESHAWAR, Oct 9: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the provincial government had again sent the proposed Hisba Act after removing his reservations, adding that he would not hinder the imposition of Islamic system in the province.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a function organized for the blind at a local hotel here on Thursday.
The governor said that he had returned the draft Hisba Act to the government with the reservations.
The government had again sent the draft after addressing his reservations, he said, observing that he would study the draft before giving his approval.
He said that nobody would be allowed to use the Pakistani soil or any part of the country, including the tribal territory, against any other country. “We cannot allow Taliban or Al Qaeda to launch operations against any other country from the Pakistani soil,” he said.
The government would take action on the basis of collective responsibility against any tribe or group found sheltering Taliban or Al Qaeda men on the Pakistani soil, Mr Shah said, sounding a warning to the tribal people to avoid providing sanctuaries to such elements.
When asked about operations in the provincial government’s jurisdiction, the governor said that only the chief minister or any other provincial government authority could answer this question.
Mr Shah said that the government had allocated Rs45 million for the treatment of eye patients in the tribal areas.
He said that an effective programme had been initiated for the blind at the federal
level as around 10,000 people lost eyesight in the country every year.
