KARACHI, Oct 8: The Banking Services Corporation (BSC) of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a comprehensive plan to eliminate the soiled and decaying currency notes in circulation in the country.

This was stated by the Managing Director of BSC, Liquat Durrani while addressing a press conference at his office here on Wednesday.

He said that commercial banks have been advised to assist the central bank in replacing the decaying currency notes of all denominations.

He said that as a first step all commercial banks have been allowed unlimited access to the SBP counters to deposit their soiled/decaying notes.

The BSC MD said that the corporation was established to handle the operational side of the bank and added that the BSC has all the task to handle the operational business of banking of SBP.

He said that Rs137 billion worth of prize bonds were being handled and added that currency notes worth Rs517 billion were presently in circulation.

Durrani said that the BSC was replacing old currencies for the last 6 months.—APP
