Bid to divide MMA bound to fail: Qazi

By Our Correspondent

NOWSHERA, Oct 1: Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that some elements are hatching conspiracies to create a rift among the components of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA).

However, he added, their nefarious designs were doomed to fail and the six-party religious alliance would remain intact.

Speaking at an open Kutchehry in Kheshki near Nowshera on Wednesday, the JI chief said the MMA would bring a silent revolution in the country, and claimed that the alliance would sweep the next general elections.

Criticising the role of the district Nazims in the NWFP, he said the district governments were creating problems for the MMA-led government in the province at the behest of the federal government.

Qazi Hussain said at present three parallel governments — central, provincial and districts — were functioning in the country; and the MMA, he added, would pull the nation out of the quagmire.

He said on the one hand, President Gen Pervez Musharraf introduced devolution plan to bring powers at grassroots level, on the other, all powers had been transferred to the Centre.
