Bomb blast damages rail tracks in Quetta

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 1: Railway track linking the provincial capital with the rest of the country was partially damaged in a bomb blast near Balochis-tan University on Wednesday night.

The train service on the Quetta-Sibi section had been suspended due to the damage caused to the tracks, railway authorities said.

“It was a home-made bomb, which exploded and damaged some wooden sleepers,” a police official told Dawn.

Unknown people planted the bomb at a small railway bridge near the university campus, which went off, rocking the city late night.

However, no casualty was reported.

Windowpanes of nearby buildings and houses were smashed due to the powerful blast, police said.

The railway authorities said the bridge was safe and repair work had been launched for replacing the damaged sleepers. They said railway traffic would be restored soon. The railway police have registered a case.
