KARACHI, Sept 27: Sindh Democratic Alliance President Imtiaz Ahmad Sheikh has said that decision pertaining to the future of SDA would soon be made in the best interest of the province and its people.

Thanking members of central executive committee and general council, besides central leaders and founding members of the SDA, on Saturday at his office, for reposing their trust in his leadership, he said a decision to join mainstream politics would soon be made.

The minister said that himself hailing from a middle class family, he was committed to secure rights of the people of the province.

Answering a question about rumpus created by the opposition during Sindh Assembly session, he reminded that it was the basic right of the opposition to raise voice of protest, however, he said, it should be within legal and constitutional ambit.

Mr Sheikh pledged to introduce a law to check the menace of karo kari during the next session of the Sindh Assembly, which he hoped would help eradicate excesses against women in the society.

“However, in realization of this cherished objective, NGOs, women organizations endeavouring in this connection, and other foundations will have to augment government efforts for accomplishment of desired task.”

POPULATION WELFARE: Meanwhile, Imtiaz Sheikh on Saturday announced decentralization of financial powers of the department and devolution of the same to district level, besides conferring required powers to district officers, providing them an opportunity to discharge their duties in an effective and viable manner.

He stated this while talking to the newsmen at the department secretariat, during which he apprised them of working of the department.

The minister said that to make the department more efficient, directorate of population welfare in the province would be restored, which was earlier closed, while in the other three provinces these departments were working smoothly.

“We are making sincere efforts for their rejuvenation and a summary, after due process of completion of required formalities, would be dispatched to federal and provincial governments.”

He said a comprehensive strategy had been evolved for involving Ulema, teachers and public representatives into population welfare programmes in the province, while a number of seminars, meetings and workshops had also been planned to propagate the message of the department in every nook and corner of the province.”

He said preparation of a draft of the message to be read by Ulema during Friday sermons, relating to population welfare, was also underway, which would soon be given to Ulema.
