HYDERABAD, Sept 25: Senior Minister Sindh Syed Sardar Ahmed has urged the Sindh Agriculture University and agricultural scientists to derive benefits from the development made in various departments of agriculture in Punjab.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a one-day workshop organized by the SAU at Tando Jam on Thursday.

The topic of the workshop was “Past, Present and Future of Agriculture and the Role of Sindh Agriculture University”. The senior minister said no significant breakthrough had been made in the agriculture sector due to a lack of coordination between the research scholars and growers.

Syed Sardar Ahmed said close coordination between agriculturalists and farmers was the need of hour. He said the coordination was equally necessary between public and private sector organizations which were separately working for the development of agriculture.

He said results of research must always be shared with growers. He said we would have to give up traditional mode of agriculture to adopt technological one. The senior minister regretted adequate funds had not been provided to the agriculture sector in the past.

He held out an assurance that sufficient funds would be allocated for the development of agriculture in the next budget. Referring to decrease in admissions to the university, he said the main reason of that development was a lack of job opportunities.

He said the government was striving hard to strengthen the private sector to open up new opportunities of employment for the professionals in all sectors of economy, including agriculture.

Dr Bashir Ahmed Chandio briefed the senior minister about the performance of various departments of the university.
