KARACHI, Sept 8: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Abdul Malik, sentenced on Monday two men to a four-year term for planning to commit murder and robbery.

Accused Ishtiaq Pervaiz and Meharban Shah were booked in 1999 by the Jamshed Quarters police on the complaint of Tanveer Ahmed.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs1,000 each on the convicts, who would have to undergo an additional one-month term in case of default on payment.

PRE-ARREST BAIL: The district and sessions judge, West, Mohammed Jawaid Alam, granted pre-arrest bail to a man and his two sons, who were booked for attacking and attempting to kill the Pak Navy guards at a jetty.

Haji Mohammed Younus and his sons, Faisal and Javed, were booked by the Docks police on Sept 5 on the complaint of commanding officer of Pak Navy’s Ship Office, Lt-Commander Mohammed Ilyas.

According to complainant, four Navy guards — Mohammad Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed, Ghulam Hussain an Saifullah — were on duty at a jetty in Younusabad on Sept 5 when Haji Younus and his sons along with 200 or 250 people forcibly entered the jetti and raised slogans against government and Pak Navy.

It was alleged that the intruders, all residents of Younusabad, beat the navy officials and they also tried to snatch the official weapon from the officials.

The police registered case against them under Sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 332, 353, 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 337-A (i) and 324 of the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance.

Shahadat Awan, appearing for Haji Younus and his sons, su bmitted before the court that the case was false as it was registered following a written complaint made by the area women to the SHO against naval officials.

The women alleged in their complaint that they were taking a pregnant woman, Zainub, to a hospital for delivery. They said the naval personnel did not allow them to use the jetty and forced them to return. They said despite repeated requests they were not allowed to take the pregnant woman to hospital.

The women alleged that Zainub gave birth to a baby who later died due to lack of medical facilities. They said following the death of the new-born, the residents of Younusabad reached the jetty to registered their protest. They alleged that Pak Navy officer Mohammed Ilyas ordered the navy personnel to push them away. They said the personnel beat them and dragged them pulling their hair.

The defence counsel contended that the FIR against his clients was registered after an unexplained delay of nine hours.

The judge gave Haji Younus and his sons pre-arrest bail in the sum of Rs50,000 each.

It may be pointed out here that the jetty has been in use of over 19,000 fishermen and the people of Shams Pirabad, Soomar Goth, Lakha Goth and Younusabad.
