CGH anaesthetist dismissed

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Sept 7: An anaesthetist of Cantonment General Hospital (CGH) has been dismissed from service in connection with the death of a class 9 student, Zara, official sources told Dawn.

He was sacked on the basis of the preliminary inquiry report into the death of 13-year-old Zara.

According to initial findings, the anaesthetist, Maj Pervez (retired), failed to prescribe a proper dose of anaesthesia to the patient who was operated upon for appendicitis. As a result, the girl died while still being under the influence of anaesthesia.

Mr Pervez was a grade 18 employee of the Cantonment General Hospital. The detailed report on the causes of Zara’s death will come within a few days.

When contacted, the cantonment executive officer, Khawaja Iftikhar Mir, said the anaesthetist had been dismissed for administering wrong dose to the patient. He said strict action would be taken against other employees of the hospital whose negligence resulted in the death of the girl. The detailed report, he said, was almost ready and would be made public within a few days.
