KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri will arrive in Kathmandu on Sept 12 to deliver a formal letter of invitation for a regional summit in Islamabad early next year, an official said on Friday.

Mr Kasuri will carry an invitation for Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa from Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to participate in the January 4-6 South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit, a Nepalese foreign ministry official said.

“... Prime Minister Jafrulla Jamali’s letter will be handed to Prime Minister Thapa on the day of the arrival of Mr Kasuri here on September 12,” the official said.

During his visit, Kasuri will meet various ministers and political leaders and hold talks with SAARC Secretary General Q.A.M.A. Rahim on association-related matters.

The summit, which was due to be held early this year, was postponed after India did not confirm its participation.

Officials in Colombo, Sri Lanka said that Khurshid Kasuri would arrive here next week, carrying a formal invitation to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Chnadrika Kumaratunga to attend the Saarc summit.—AFP
