Marketing of handicrafts stressed

By Our Correspondent

MITHI, Sept 7: Tharparkar Rural Development Programme chairman Dr Suleman Shaikh has stressed the need for marketing of Thari handicrafts all over the world.

He was speaking at the concluding session of a two-day Sawan Merako (Monsoon Festival), organised by the TRDP at a stadium here on Sunday to highlight the crafts and culture of the Thari people.

He said that the Tharis particularly the women were expert in different crafts and their works were famous all over the world but they were compelled to sell their products at throwaway price to the middlemen.

TRDP executive director Dr Sono Khangharani said that a nation, which could not maintain its link with its history and culture, could loose its identity.

At the festival, 20 stalls displayed handicrafts, models, paintings, maps, charts and other articles collected by different units of the TRDP.

A large number of people, including women and children, visited the exhibition.
