Yazman college upgraded

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 30: The Government Intermediate College, Yazman, has been upgraded to the degree level.

The Punjab government issued a notification in this regard on Saturday.

Meanwhile, public circles of Yazman welcomed the upgradation of the college.

BA EXAMS: The Islamia University, Bahawalpur, on Saturday notified the last date for submission of admission forms for the BA, BSc second annual examinations, 2003, as September 4.

Forms could be submitted with double fee till September 15.

The examination will commence on Oct 28.

MMA SUPPORT: The MMA has decided to support the ARD candidate for the officeof Bahawalpur tehsil Naib Nazim.

The decision was announced on Saturday by the MMA leaders at a press conference here on Saturday.

Sahibzada Munawar Hayat Abbasi has been nominated by the ARD for the by-election to the office of Naib Nazim.

Earlier, Jamaat-i-Islami MPA Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar, a component of the MMA, announced his support for Malik Zahid Channar, a nominee of the ruling district government group.

The MMA announcement indicates division in the ranks of six-party religious alliance.

OVERCROWDED JAIL: The New Central Jail is overcrowded.

According to a source, 2,665 prisoners are housed in the jail having the capacity for 1,300 men.

Of the 2,665 prisoners, 249 prisoners, who have been handed down death sentence, are lodged in 13 barracks, while 19 are facing trials in the anti-terrorism court. There are 30 women languishing in the jail.

It is learnt that a number of prisoners are TB patients.

JOB-SEEKERS: As many as 2,600 candidates submitted applications for 85 posts of police constables in Bahawalpur district.

Dawn learnt that, the DIG had constituted a committee comprising Bahawalpur DPO Sikandar Hayat and Multan city SP to complete the recruitment process.

According to the schedule, physical test of the candidates will be held on September 2, and written test the next day.

Final results will be declared on September 4 and interviews of the successful candidates will be held on September 5.
