RAWALPINDI, Aug 24: The customs authorities have seized five wooden boxes containing a huge quantity of heroin at Islamabad airport’s cargo terminal, official sources said on Sunday.

According to the sources, the boxes were part of a consignment being sent to Cameroon via Dubai.

The consignment comprising six wooden boxes, containing sports goods and drugs, were loaded in a plane after being cleared by the customs staff. However, five of the six boxes were off-loaded due to space problem, they added.

The customs staff and the authorities concerned were unaware of the presence of drugs in the consignment until the customs additional collector, Imtiaz Ahmed, received information that the boxes contained about 10.7kg heroin, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the sixth wooden box had reached Dubai en route to Cameroon, they added.

The customs deputy superintendent, Inamul Haq, when contacted, said the five boxes had been seized, while efforts were being made to get back the sixth one from Dubai. He said the customs staff could not be accused of negligence, as the drugs were concealed skillfully inside the boxes.

BODY FOUND: The body of a 14-year-old boy, who went missing on Saturday from Sector I-8/1, was found in Korang Nullah. According to the police, Arsalan Tariq, son of a CDA sub- engineer, left his house on Saturday, but did not return till night.

The police said it seemed that the boy had drowned.
