Conversion of project: deal signed

LAHORE, July 31: Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited has signed an agreement with a leading cement plant supplier — F.L. Smidth A/S Denmark — for conversion of the existing wet process production line to dry process for manufacturing white cement.

A news release issued here on Thursday said Maple Leaf was the most experienced manufacturer of white cement in the country. The existing wet process lines having a capacity of 110 tons per day of white cement consume substantial amount of energy. The conversion project would reduce the fuel consumption by half.

“Since the company has all the special raw materials required for white cement available near the plant. Therefore, conversion project will also base on increased capacity of white cement to meet the growing domestic demand and requirement,” the release said.

Initially, the release said, the capacity would increase to 500 tons per day that could be raised to 1,000 tons per day with the growth in the demand.

In addition to process conversion and expansion of capacity, the control system of the plant is also being changed to the latest state-of-the-art control system, which would optimize the plant operation and prove to be helpful in attaining better efficiency and quality. Design of the project has already started and is expected to complete in two years.
