KARACHI, July 24: For the establishment of an experimental centre, the University of Karachi has demanded of the city government to allocate at least 500 acres land in the “Education City” at the link road near Super Highway.

This was stated by the vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Dr Zafar Saeed Saify.

“We have requested DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali to allocate at least 500 acres land in the Education City so that we could establish our experimental centre there. Currently, we are facing paucity of space at our main campus after establishment of five institutes,” he said.

He informed that the experimental centre would be used to conduct research and impart higher studies. He said that the government had given land to other private universities and institutions to establish their campuses in the “Education City”. He expressed hope that it would not be very difficult for the city government to allocate land for Karachi University.

Meanwhile, Dr Saify informed that the KU would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sindh University to initiate joint research works in various fields of natural sciences, especially in pharmacy.

“Exchange of students and faculty, research and other areas will be covered in the proposed MoU between the two varsities and we will help Sindh University to upgrade its faculty by helping them in their doctorate programme,” he said and added that the KU had already helped several students of Sindh University in completion of their PhD degrees.

BUSES: Dr Saify said that Karachi University had also requested the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to provide two large buses, which would be plied between the KU and Sindh University on daily basis.—PPI
