KARACHI: Construction of football stadium in Lyari begins
KARACHI, July 11: The city government has initiated the construction work of Lyari Football Stadium on an area of six acres.
The stadium, being constructed at a cost of Rs7.299 million, will be completed during the current fiscal. An international standard sports field will also be established covering an area of 8,800 square feet inside the stadium.
City Nazim Naimatullah Khan visited the stadium alongwith the DCO Karachi, Mir Hussain Ali, on Friday. The EDO Works, Brig (Retd) Zaheer Qadri; Lyari Town Nazim, Abdul Khaliq Jumma; other officials and the elected representatives of the area were also present.
Mr Khan constituted a committee comprising old football players, Mohammed Ashraf and Abdul Ghani, for supervision of the development works. The presiding officer in city council, Ghulam Abbas Baluch, will also be a member of the committee.
The City Nazim said that the construction work, repair of shops in the stadium should also be started simultaneously, which would later be auctioned.
He said that the stadium would have multiple advantages for Lyariites. It would promote sports activities among local people and provide them opportunities of healthy recreational facilities, he said. The area would also have a good market, which would be helpful for its economic uplift, he added.
On the occasion, Mr Khan ordered the repair and rehabilitation of Chakiwara Market and auctioning of its shops so that government properties could be utilized for the betterment of citizens.
The DCO informed that he had visited the stadium earlier and claimed that he would personally monitor the work and ensure that it would be completed ahead of the schedule.
Town Nazim Abdul Khaliq Jumma thanked the city government on undertaking the project of a football stadium in Lyari.
Later, the City Nazim alongwith Town Nazim, visited various parts of Lyari.
KEAMARI TOWN: On the invitation of MPA Maulana Umer Sadiq, Mr Naimatullah Khan paid a detailed visit to the constituency of PS- 90.
Addressing a gathering in Keamari, he said that after the inception of the city government, special attention had been paid on rural areas. However, he admitted, the problems lasting for the last five decades could not be resolved in a few months. He regretted that even after 56 years, basic facilities were not available to the people.
He said that Maulana Umer Sadiq was the first MPA, who invited him to visit his constituency. On his pointation, he pledged that the city government would make every effort to solve the problems of this area.
Earlier, MPA Umer Sadiq welcomed the nazim. He expressed hope that he would succeed in solving the problems of people with the cooperation of the city government.
The meeting was also addressed by Keamari Town Nazim, Zulfiqar Yunus and UC Nazim, Allah Bux Dildar.
BALDIA TOWN: City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, also visited Ittehad Town in Baldia.
Addressing a big gathering, Mr Khan said that Karachi could not afford further confrontations. He said that all people, especially the elected representatives, would have to work together to solve the real problems of the masses.
He made it clear that he had not stopped supply of water to any area of the city. “If no water line was at all laid down in Ittehad Town, how far the city government can be held responsible for it,” he remarked.
He assured to convene a high level meeting within a week to discuss the laying of water pipelines in Ittehad Town. He assured people that water was the only problem, which was being given special attention by the city government. However, he said that the citizens should realize that there were scarcity of water resources.
Mr Khan said that the city government provided Rs15 million to each town and Rs3.5 million to each union council last year for the development works at grass root level.
Claiming that he has never made false promises, he said, “He cannot make a promise with the people of Ittehad Town, which he could not be able to fulfil.”
However, for the pipeline project, he said that the town and union councils would have to work jointly, he added.
Earlier, Baldia Town Nazim Haji Aurangzeb described water an important issue for the Ittehad Town and asked the City Nazim to make some important announcement in this regard.—APP
