Concern expressed over wheat supply ban

By Our Correspondent

MINGORA, July 5: The traders and politicians of Malakand division have expressed concern over Punjab government’s decision to impose ban on supply of wheat to NWFP.

PPP-S Senator, Shuja ul Mulk, said that the government of Punjab by imposing a ban on movement of wheat to the NWFP had violated Article 151 of the Constitution.

He said that under the rules the inter-provincial trade could only be controlled by the federal government.

He said there was no shortage of wheat in Punjab and the ban has been imposed just to protect interests of certain elements in Punjab.

He demanded that the Punjab government should resolve the issue and save the situation from further deterioration.

The traders have also condemned the decision and asked the Punjab government to lift the ban.

They said that in the past such steps were taken by Nawaz Sharif government and the people themselves had witnessed the results.
