LAHORE, July 5: Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Nazim Khawaja Ahmed Hasan and Naib Nazim Mian Muhammad Usman won a unanimous vote of confidence without a no-trust move here on Saturday.

The vote of confidence was moved by Mian Amjad Hussain Billoo at an extraordinary session of the Data Ganj Bakhsh Council convened at the Nadir Hall of the District Nazim office.

It was moved on the request of Shahid Saeed, Mian Riaz Ahmed, Shahid Majeed, Matiullah Khan Lodhi, Mian Amjad Hussain , Abdul Samad Ghani, Irfan Butt, Ahmed Butt, Rana Farooq Ahmed, Mian Muhammad Ashfaq, Abida Ijaz, Nabeela Shaheen and Asifa Idrees.

He said that town councillors reposed full confidence in the Nazim and Naib Nazim for their efforts for the development of town and welfare of the people. Supporting the confidence vote, Rana Liaquat Ali said that the standard of development works undertaken in town had been praised by international organizations like the World Bank.

Abida Ijaz said that woman councillors also reposed full confidence in the Town Nazim for awarding honorarium to councillors and starting free Haj scheme for them besides giving scholarships to talented students and distribution of sewing machines among women, enabling them to earn a livelihood.

Nazir Khan Swati, Malik Shahzad Azam, Malik Munir Ahmed, Syed Ashfaq Hussain, Ikramul Haq, Philip Morris, Yousaf Lodhi and Shahid Saeed also supported the vote of confidence move.

Taking exception to convening the session, Mian Rashid Iqbal said that development works in his union council had not been completed in time and streetlights work had not been got executed through him. He said the campaign against encroachments was not being carried out successfully either.

Another member said the council was not giving its vote of trust but it was being taken from it. He said that the town administration was favouring the councillors of a particular political party and giving them a larger share from the uplift funds.

Speaking to the council after winning the vote of confidence, Khawaja Ahmed Hassan said the district government system had entered a new phase after June 30 as the period of immunity available to Nazims and Naib Nazims under the Punjab Local Government Ordinance had ended on that day.
