KARACHI, July 5: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has expressed concern over the “current situation” in the Fishermen Cooperative Society.

PFF chairman Mohammad Ali Shah said the bureaucracy wanted to take control of the society which is a representative body of the local fishermen.

He stated that the PFF would resist the attempts aimed at weakening the FCS and violation of by-laws of the society would also be opposed.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the newly-re- constituted board of directors of the Fishermen Cooperative Society was held on May 24 and as per Section 34, the board unanimously elected the new chairman and vice-chairman of the society.

This was stated in a statement issued here by the FCS. The statement further stated that out of 15, 14 members voted in favour of the new chairman and vice-chairman and it is pertinent to mention here that director Haji Shafi Mohammad Jamote was not present in the meeting despite the fact that he was invited.
