QUETTA, July 3: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court converted into death sentence the conviction of a man earlier awarded life imprisonment by a district and sessions judge in a murder case.

The high court bench on Wednesday announced the judgment on a review petition filed by Abdul Waris, a relative of Ms Rahima murdered by the convict in August 2000.

The bench, comprising Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, accepted the application of the petitioner seeking harsher punishment for the murderer.

JUI(F) MEETING: Balochistan JUI-F parliamentary group leaders on Thursday warned the government of serious consequences if it recognized Israel or sent Pakistan troops to Iraq.

Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, the JUI-F MNA and Provincial Amir of the party, presided over the meeting at the MPA Hostel here on Thursday.

JUI-F information secretary Dilwar Khan Kakar told Dawn that the meeting discussed situation in Iraq, Iran, Israel recognition, government attempts to disqualify MMA lawmakers and the coalition government’s performance in the province.

The participants of the meeting decided that the MMA would not succumb to the government pressure and a protest meeting would be held in Quetta to condemn government’s internal and international policies.

CLASH: One person was killed and 29 sustained injuries in an armed clash between two groups of Bungulzai tribe in Dasht area, Mastung district.

The two groups attacked each other on Thursday over a land dispute. One died and 29 people from both the sides were injured, who were admitted to Civil and Bolan hospitals in the provincial metropolis.

ADB: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide $120 million for the Balochistan resource management programme to bring reforms in the annual financial system with a view to increasing the province income.

An ADB review mission on Wednesday informed Governor Abdul Qadir Baloch at a meeting here that the provision of funds aimed at alleviating poverty, developing economy, improving the use of water resources, encouraging private investment, besides betterment in accounting and audit system.

The governor told the visiting mission that the government was paying special attention to agriculture, livestock, mining, irrigation, and education and the funds would help improve the situation.
