KARACHI, June 30: Police were put on a red alert in the metropolis since Monday morning in view of the judgment by an anti-terrorism court in the Sheraton blast case.

The police remained on a red alert during the court announced the judgment, a senior police official said. In the red alert, the high police officials were also in field to monitor law and order and the maximum available strength of the police were on different thoroughfares, roads and streets to meet any eventuality.

After being red alert for at least four hours, the police were placed on high alert, in which the police officials kept on an eye on unscrupulous elements to avoid any untoward incident, the police sources said.

A senior police official said the security at consulates and diplomatic missions had been increased, besides intensifying the security to the high officials of the provincial government.

He said that the number of policemen patrolling on different roads and streets had been increased.
