ISLAMABAD, June 21: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said here on Saturday the Pakistan Muslim League-Q and its allies would defeat the no-confidence motion tabled by the opposition against the National Assembly Speaker.

Presiding over a high-level consultative meeting of the PML-Q and its allies at the Prime Minister’s House, Mr Jamali said the democratic institutions were beginning to take firm roots in the country and all-out efforts would be made for the stability and continuity of the democratic system in the country.

“Any move at this stage to destabilise the system would be against the country and its people,” he said.

Mr Jamali, however, reiterated the need for holding dialogue to resolve political differences through negotiations.

“Opposition is not playing its due role by consistently refusing to hold meaningful talks with the government,” the premier said.

The meeting was also attended, among others, by National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Abdul Sattar Lalika, Chaudhry Noraiz Shakoor, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Syed Safwanullah, Mohammad Nasrullah Dreshak and Dr Sher Afghan Niazi.

PUNJAB MNAs: Meanwhile, a group of National Assembly members from Punjab called on prime minister in his office on Saturday. Mr Jamali told the parliamentarians from Punjab that high priority would be accorded to the development of rural areas to improve the living conditions of the people.
